Dr Gianluca Miscione’s research work is on spatial data infrastructures; city mapping; voluntary geographic information; and urban transport and social networks. He has been studying spatial data infrastructures for planning in Europe and India, the latter with the support of a Dutch Research Council grant for integrated research.
His central focus has been on the actual consequences in use of geospatial technologies (especially in urban planning) rather than on a more traditional emphasis on design. This shift brought his attention to social sciences more than on pure technological development. This is reflected both in his more recent work on voluntary geographic information and on the influence of social networks on travel behaviors.
