Dr Jonathan Turner research interests lie in the fields of River Science, Geomorphology and Environmental Change. Dr Jonathan Turner is co-PI on the SILTFLUX project – Monitoring Suspended Sediment Fluxes in Irish Rivers – which is funded by the EPA STRIVE Programme (Siltflux.com). He is also undertaking research on river channel change in Irish catchments during the last 200 years, to explore concepts of geomorphic resilience and sensitivity in the context of contemporary river catchment management objectives.
Much of his research now centres on the application of the GPEP Itrax Core Scanner imaging platform, alongside other complementary palaeoenvironmental proxies, to answer research questions related to environmental change and reconstruction. With this technology he is developing methods for flood reconstruction and new approaches for the rapid assessment of floodplain contamination in metal-mined river catchments under the Marie Curie INFER project
