UCD Earth Institute Seminar informs public debate on subject of ‘Fraccing’
28th November 2012: The UCD Earth Institute had its inaugural public keynote seminar for the 2012/13 session in the Royal Irish Academy, with Prof. Peter Styles (Keele University) addressing a full house on ‘Managing the Risks of Fraccing for Shale Gas Extraction’.
Inaugural Earth Institute Industry & Enterprise Showcase a great success
6th November 2012: The UCD Earth Institute’s inaugural Industry and Enterprise Showcase took place on November 6th in UCD’s O’Reilly Hall, and was hailed as a great success by all those in attendance.

11th October 2012: UCD Earth Institute, in conjunction with UCD School of Politics and International Relations, broadcasted a live screening of the State of the Planet Conference 2012 held in Columbia University, USA.

UCD’s two newest ERC awards go to Earth Institute investigators
28th September 2012: The European Research Council (ERC) has recently announced its latest awards to scientists conducting innovative, frontier research. UCD is the host for two of these awards, and in both cases the investigators are members of the Earth Institute.

13th August 2012: Dr Jenny McElwain and PhD student Margret Steinthorsdottir research outlining the impact of high levels of atmospheric C02 on the ancient water cycle published in Geology.

6th June 2012: The British Geological Survey has confirmed a magnitude 4 earthquake off the west coast of Ireland.
Minister opens crucial policy workshop on climate change and emissions

Muck to gold - UCD researcher uses waste to clean up waste water
16th April 2012, Irish Times: Dr Yaqian Zhao from the UCD Centre for Water Resources Research, has developed an artificial wetland system that uses drinking water treatment sludge to clear pollutants from farm waste water streams.
