Dr. Stephen O’Brien is Chief Scientific Officer of Theodosius Dobzhansky Centre for Genome Bioinformatics, in St. Petersburg State University in Russia.
Dr. O'Brien's lecture highlighted why it is important to conserve species and described what state-of-the-art genetics can teach us about our environment and also ourselves. He also outlined how studies of wild cats can help us advance our understanding of deadly human diseases such as AIDS and SARS. How these non-traditional approaches can abate extinctions and unlock medical secrets.
