UCD PhD Student wins Best Paper Award
Alan Fernihough, a PhD student at the UCD School of Economics, recently won the Denis Conniffe award for best paper presented by a graduate student at the Irish Economics Association Annual Conference in April. The title of Alan's paper was Malthusian Dynamics in a Diverging Europe: Northern Italy 1650-1881. The award for best paper by a graduate student was recently renamed the Denis Conniffe award in honour of Denis Conniffe, late of the School of Economics at UCD, who sadly passed away in January 2011. As well as being a world renowned scholar in economics and statistics, Denis was particularly supportive of young researchers.
