NEW RESTRICTIONS FOR THE DISPOSAL OF WASTE ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT

As a result of the Environmental Protection Agency’s publication, the European Hazardous Waste list, certain waste electrical and electronic waste may no longer be accepted into the normal waste stream. This means that this equipment, as listed below, is not to be put in office bins or skips for disposal.

These goods include:

  • White goods (fridges, washing machines etc.)
  • Paint products
  • Gas cylinders
  • Medium to Large I.T. equipment (monitors, PCs, Photocopiers etc)
  • Batteries
  • Small I.T. equipment (mobile phones, land line phones, calculators etc.)
  • Other electrical equipment e.g. toasters, hand drills etc.

The responsibility for the safe disposal of these items will be that of each individual department. For information on how to dispose of any Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, please email your query to environment@ucd.ie

Useful Tips

Before your Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment can be removed do you know the following information?

  • How much equipment do you have to dispose of? E.g. 12 monitors, 2 small fridges, 15 PCs, 14 keyboards, 1 Fridge/Freezer etc. [n.b. It is not necessary for you to know the make and models of the items.]
  • Where is the equipment stored?
  • Is there any particularly heavy equipment?
  • Have you insured that the equipment is empty e.g. have fridges been emptied etc?
