Waste Management

Waste Management is fast becoming one of the hottest topics in Ireland today. Not only have local councils and corporations set targets and goals regarding recycling and recovery rates, but there is increasing pressure coming from the European Union, for Ireland to show drastic improvements in its attitude to waste.
This section will set down what the University is doing in relation to its management of both municipal and hazardous waste. There are useful links to National and European legislation, which determines how we handle our waste. HOWEVER, before you begin to dispose of waste, STOP and THINK!: Can the waste be eliminated? If not, can the amount of waste be reduced, or even reused or recycled.

Laboratory Waste Management Guidelines 04/12/03

All departments, staff and students must take into consideration the disposal of waste arising from any practices within the University. As a result of various breaches in the disposal of waste from UCD, this document has been drawn up as guidance when disposing of waste This document outlines how waste is to be streamed for UCD.
