- Each student has a personalised Research and Professional Development Plan.
- Students engage in research activity, under the direction of a Principal Supervisor. Students are given support in areas such as research methods, library use, and computer skills.
- Students may also take taught modules, as recommended by their Principal Supervisor. These modules will typically develop the advanced knowledge, skills and competencies required for successful research and/or support the acquisition of generic or transferable skills.
- The course duration is: not less than one year and not more than two years full-time; OR not less than two years and not more than four years part-time.
Learning Outcomes
Students develop the skills and competencies to conduct research, and demonstrate these skills and competencies via course work and/or research activity.
Assessment Procedures
- The degree of M.Litt will be awarded where the candidate has successfully completed a programme of study of a value between 90-180 credits.
- Within this range, students complete a minimum of 90 credits of research activity at master’s level (UCD level 4); and not more than 90 credits of taught modules.
- Note: Students may exit with an M.Litt OR may transfer to stage two of a doctoral programme on successful completion of a transfer assessment.
