School of Education Participates in a UCD Interdisciplinary Workshop on September 23rd, 2016
An interdisciplinary workshop was organised by UCD School of Education, School of Philosophy, School of Politics and International Relations, and Sutherland School of Law on September 23rd 2016. This workshop examined various ways in which ethical issues and ethical training enter or ought to enter the primary and secondary school curricula in Ireland and the UK. It opened a dialogue between disciplines, between countries and between the levels of educational theory and concrete policy.
The speakers included Dr Áine Mahon, University College Dublin, School of Education, who gave the Welcome Address; Dr Matthew Clayton (University of Warwick) on "Ethics and Education: Perspectives from Moral and Political Philosophy"; Dr Audrey Bryan (Dublin City University) on "Global Ethics and Education: Producing Global Citizens"; Dr. Jones Irwin (Dublin City University/National Council for Curriculum and Assessment) on "Ethics is not an exact science - from Aristotle to the Goodness Me, Goodness You! Curriculum”.
