Ethics Applications

For Year 2 Masters Students completing field research, please follow the below steps;

  1. Student completes draft Research Proposal and sends to supervisor, indicating Exemption from Full Review or Full Review.
  2. Supervisor calls for either Exemption from Full Review or Full Review.
  3. Student then fills out the relevant ethics form (either an Exemption from Full Review or a Full Review application) and submits to supervisor for approval. Both forms are available to download below. If approved:
  4. Student contacts education.ethics@ucd.ie to request their ethics exemption code or their ethics full review code. Please specify which code is required.
  5. Once student receives their code, their code must be included on their Exemption from Full Review or a Full Review application. 

For EXEMPTION FROM FULL REVIEW applications

Please email the completed form to safety@ucd.ie and cc education.ethics@ucd.ie in order to obtain a Safety Letter of Insurance. Please send the hardcopy of this application and the letter of insurance to supervisor. Supervisor signs hardcopy and it is given to the School Office (Room 0.06) for filing.


For FULL REVIEW applications

Please email completed form to education.ethics@ucd.ie The application will be reviewed at the School Ethics Committee meetings. Dates of these meeting and deadlines for application are outlined below. The School Ethics Committee may request that the student make changes to their proposed research. Once the School Ethics Committee signs off on the full review form, please email the completed form to safety@ucd.ie and cc education.ethics@ucd.ie to obtain a Safety Letter of Insurance. Please send the hardcopy of this application and the letter of insurance to supervisor. Supervisor signs hardcopy and it is given to the School Office (Room 0.06) for filing.
