Biography:
Judith Harford BA, MA, HDipEd, PhD Dr Judith Harford is Director of the Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) at the School of Education, University College Dublin. She has published internationally in the areas of teacher education, history of women's education and education policy. She is Co-Ordinator of the Teacher Education Policy in Europe Network and a Link Convenor of the Teacher Education Research Network of the European Educational Research Association (EERA). She is a peer reviewer for a number of international journals and is on the editorial board of the New Hibernia Review. She is Consulting Editor to the Australian Journal of Teacher Education and series editor for Peter Lang:Oxford ('Re-Thinking Education' Series). She was recently a Visiting Research Associate at the Faculty of Policy and Society, Institute of Education, University of London. External examining work includes The University of Western Australia, The University of East London and the University of Limerick, Ireland. |
Research Interests
| My area of research is education, with a particular emphasis on teacher education research and history of education. My work in these areas has led to an extensive publication record and a number of research grants, from organisations including: The World Bank (Joint Principal Applicant, EUR 438,000) The Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences (Principal Applicant, EUR 45,029) The European Educational Research Association (Principal Applicant, EUR 5,000) I am a member of the newly formed Committee for Inter-Disciplinary and International Collaboration at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology established in 2012 in order to facilitate the creation and support of European research projects in Horizon 2020 and related funding streams. I am also Co-Ordinator of the Teacher Education Policy in Europe Network (TEPE) and Link Convenor of the Teacher Education Research Network of the European Educational Research Association. I have acted as consultant to the University of Aveiro, Portugal on the introduction of a national programme of teacher induction and serve on the Irish State Department of Education and Skills management group on teacher induction. I am series editor to the Peter Lang 'Re-Thinking Education' series. I have acted as extern examiner to universities in Ireland, England, Scotland and Australia. In addition, I have co-authored several commissioned reports and reviewed for leading international publishing houses in my field, namely:
