Welcome to the website of UCD School of Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering. The School provides access to education and research opportunities that reflect the expertise and interests of approximately 40 full-time academic staff.
The School recognises that, within the modern environment, it is unlikely that any engineer will operate in a discipline-specific vacuum and he or she will interact at an interdisciplinary level much more frequently and significantly than was historically the case. The long-established major disciplines of Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical have now been supplemented with many subspecialties, such as Biomedical, Communications and Materials Engineering. These diverse disciplines have many basic principles in common and graduates from apparently very different courses often end up doing very similar jobs in later life.
Educationally, this is reflected in our contribution to the Master of Engineering (ME) programme which is designed to provide a strong foundation in mathematics and the scientific principles of engineering whilst allowing significant personal choice of course modules in Biomedical; Computer, Electronic, Electrical, Materials and Mechanical Engineering.
Research activity within the School covers a range of topics within the domains of Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering and is recognized as being nationally and internationally leading in many areas. Strategic research areas are those of Advanced Communications Engineering, Bioengineering, Energy and Materials & Manufacturing Engineering.
Whether you are interested in studying Engineering at UCD, in evaluating career options or in exploring research topics and opportunities within the School, please feel free to browse and to contact us should you have any questions.
