The Sixth Annual UCD James Joyce Research Colloquium:
25–27 April 2013
UCD James Joyce Research Centre
University College Dublin, Ireland
The 2013 international Joyce research colloquium at UCD will once again provide a forum for the discussion of current and future developments in James Joyce Studies. It sets out to facilitate active exchange between graduate students and practitioners at all levels in the field of Joyce Studies and related areas on the opportunities and challenges of undertaking research on Joyce. Speakers will analyse and debate the usefulness of particular methodologies and theoretical positions for aspects of research projects that they have concluded or their applicability for works in progress.
Note that we have modified the Colloquium’s format for 2013 and are pleased to announce a Call for PANELS to complement the traditional keynote and plenary presentations. The panels should consist of three speakers and presentations will be 30 minutes in length. They can centre on any topic, but it is expected that the three papers should be interrelated to encourage a lively discussion. Please submit by email a title and outline for the panel that clearly sets out the topic, as well as the titles and short abstracts of the individual papers. The proposal should not be longer than one page. Also include brief bios of the presenters, indicating their affiliations and current work on Joyce. The deadline for proposals is Friday, 1 February 2013, but prospective applicants are encouraged to contact the organisers beforehand for further information.
There is no fee, but pre-registration by all attendees and participants is required. PhD students, Joyce scholars, and those with an active interest in Joyce are invited to participate and attend. Joyceans and Irish Studies specialists in Ireland are particularly welcome. Close dialogue will be encouraged between all the participants to enable open and expansive discussion of the present state of Joyce Studies. Participants will have to cover travel and accommodation costs. We will advise on affordable hotels and hostels in the city centre. Lunch, coffee breaks and receptions will be provided for, but there will be a modest charge for the Colloquium dinner.
