UCD School of English, Drama & Film

Scoil an Bhéarla, na Drámaíochta agus na Scannánaíochta UCD

Welcome to the School of English, Drama and Film, with Irish Studies and Creative Writing, at UCD.

The School has a longstanding relationship with Junior Year Abroad (JYA) Students and welcomes your contribution to academic and student life here in UCD. Our JYA programme offers students the opportunity to study literature alongside existing students through a combination of modules of levels 2 and 3 modules.

You will find information on the courses on offer to English Literature JYA students in 2008-2009 under Guidelines. Further information on the School’s teaching, research, staff and events can be found on this website (see links on the left).

Further information on UCD’s JYA and Study Abroad programmes can be accessed here.

If you have any queries regarding JYA programmes in the School of English, Drama and Film contact Dr Jane Grogan or Dr Maria Stuart.

We hope you enjoy your time in the School.

Information for JYA Students: English at UCD 2009-10

The School advises all JYA students to take 2 Core (or Co-core) Lecture Modules and 1 Seminar Module per semester (see below for lists of courses in each). Each module = 5 credits, giving JYA students 15 credits per semester.

Module Registration:

JYA students may contact the JYA Office, UCD for information about registration for Core Lecture Modules. It is important to note however, that registration for all Seminar Modules will only take place after arrival at the School of English in September 2009/January 2010. On no account can a student register for a Seminar in advance of arrival. Places are limited for seminars and incoming JYA students will have an Orientation Meeting in the School of English at 2pm on Thursday 3rd September 2009 (semester 1; room J208) or (for students arriving in Semester 2) in the afternoon of Thursday 14th January 2010 . The time and location of Seminar Registration will be given at this Orientation Meeting, so it is imperative that students atten d. As places are limited, students are asked to compile their first three Seminar Module preferences and bring these to Seminar Registration.
