The Centenary of Dubliners:

Historical and Archival Approaches

In celebration of the centenary of the publication of Dubliners, this year’s annual UCD Joyce research colloquium will focus on new work on the short stories. The colloquium sets out to facilitate active exchange between graduate students and practitioners at all levels in the field of Joyce Studies and related fields. As always, we aim to provide a forum for the discussion of current and future developments in James Joyce Studies, but we particularly encourage the presentation and discussion of new insights and perspectives on Joyce’s work. While we want to highlight historical and archival contexts of Dubliners, all topics and approaches are welcome as always.

Currently, we have confirmed the following plenaries Hans Walter Gabler (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, Munich) and Andrew Gibson (Royal Holloway, University of London), Frank McGuinness (University College Dublin) and Vicki Mahaffey (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign). The venues will be Newman House (10 and 11 April) and the James Joyce Centre (12 April). The social programme has yet to be fixed. Further information will be posted in January 2014 at

We are pleased to announce a Call for PANELS and PAPERS to complement the traditional keynote and plenary presentations. To gauge interest in the topic, we ask that you contact the organisers as soon as possible for further information. Please submit by email a paragraph-long paper and/or panel abstract (with title) that clearly sets out the topic, including a short abstract. This should not be longer than 500 words. Also include a brief narrative CV with affiliation and a short statement about your current work on Joyce. The deadline for complete submissions is Monday, 3 February 2014.
