Dr Christine Mangan, a former PhD student in the UCD School of English, Drama and Film (graduated 2015), last week sold the publishing rights of her debut novel Tangerine to Ecco/HarperCollins. Film rights have been acquired by Imperative Entertainment, with George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures to produce, and Scarlett Johansson attached to star.

Set against the political climate of 1950s Tangier, the novel Tangerine follows the intersecting lives of Alice Shipley and Lucy Mason--and the secrets they hold between them. 

A year and an entire ocean separate Alice from the accident that forever altered the course of her life. In Tangier, Alice has become a recluse, too afraid to venture out into the city she now calls home. Her efforts to leave the past behind are further threatened when her former college roommate, Lucy Mason, appears unannounced at her door, as enigmatic and beguiling as ever. And perhaps even dangerous.
