EMPS Speak and Poster Session
EMPS Speak is a competition for PhD student in the third year of their PhD programme which takes place each year in the EMPS Graduate School. The challenge is for these students to explain their research in non-scientific terms to a lay audience. Each School in the College nominates a candidate who may have to take part in a School heat. The winner of EMPS Speak will go forward to the UCD competition to select the UCD representative for the national Science Speak competition.
Each EMPS Speak candidates have a fifteen minute slot (twelve for presentation, three for questions) and may use any audio-visual aids, illustrations, analogies or examples that will bring their subject to life for the non-specialist audience. Contestants will be judges on how well they explain their own research work.
The speaking competition is followed by a poster session, where research students/groups have an opportunity to display any posters they may have pertaining to their research, and a reception.
