Public lecture Robert Fisk - Life After ISIS
Robert Fisk is arguably the most celebrated international journalist in recent decades. Seven times recipient of the British International Journalist of the Year, he has been Middle East correspondent of The Independent for over twenty years; an Arabic speaker, he is based in Beirut. He has reported on several armed conflicts throughout the world, including Northern Ireland, Kuwait, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Lebanon. He is one of a few Western journalists to have interviewed Osama bin Laden (three times).
Robert Fisk has strong Irish connections; in 1991 he won the Jacob's Award for coverage of the Gulf War on RTÉ Radio. He received a PhD for a dissertation on Ireland during the emergency - published under the title In Time of War: Ireland, Ulster and the Price of Neutrality, 1939-1945. As well as his own PhD he is the recipient of eight honorary doctorates, in Europe, Canada, and Australia.
On 18 April he will lecture at University College Dublin on 'Life after ISIS'. The topic is clearly of immediate and urgent importance. Dr Fisk is uniquely qualified to assess the geopolitical situation not only in the Middle East, but the wider context of a conflict that is unprecedented in our time.
Dr Fisk will be presented with Honorary Life Membership of the UCD Law Society.
The event is being hosted by the UCD Philosophy Society and the UCD Law Society with the support of UCD University Relations. To book your place please email firstname.lastname@example.org
