Clubs & Societies
There
are over 100 Clubs & Societies registered with the Students’ Union
ranging from sports to academic interests. You can join any of these
Clubs & Societies during Freshers’ Week (second week of Autumn
term) at their stands in the Arts/Commerce Building. This
is a very important aspect of student life in the College. The selection
and variety of the different Clubs and Societies is huge, and no matter
what your interests there will probably be a group that caters for you.
There are many events going on every day to choose from - a match, a
film, concert, play or a party. Joining clubs and societies is the best
way to meet people in UCD - and most sports clubs cater for beginners.

Sport
All students at UCD have the opportunity to join in and become part of UCD Sport, with a large and diverse choice of sporting pursuits on offer. Most students find their membership and/or involvement in sport significantly enhances their UCD experience, with many benefits in terms of health, physical fitness, camaraderie and personal development.
All standards are catered for in the fifty-eight sports clubs registered with the UCD Athletic Union Council (AUC). For a full list of the clubs in UCD go to www.ucd.ie/sport/clubs.htm You can join any of these Clubs during Sports Expo (second week of term) at their stands in the Sports Centre or alternatively you can contact the Sports Office for details of contact numbers of specific club officers. Furthermore, if the sport you are interested in is not currently available why not set-up a new club! In recent years Lacrosse and Wrestling have been added to the list of UCD sports clubs.
However, if you are not interested in joining a club but want to get fit why not use the facilities of Crunch Fitness Centre, or attend an aerobics class, or get a group of friends together for 5-a-side soccer, or maybe just go for a jog around the campus.
The sports facilities at Belfield are among the finest in the country and reflect the popularity and significance of sporting activity at UCD. There are twenty-one natural grass pitches on the campus, five floodlit tennis courts, a modern athletics track, three synthetic grass floodlit pitches including the National Hockey Stadium, six 5-a-side pitches, an indoor rifle range and a large indoor Sports Centre. The Sports Centre which houses the administrative offices for sport, includes two sports halls, four squash courts, a racquetball/handball alley, sauna, the High Performance Centre, Crunch Fitness Centre and a state-of-the-art climbing wall. Most of the changing facilities for sport are also located in the Sports Centre however, there are now four new squad changing rooms in the new Sports Pavilion. Other amenities in the Sports Centre are O’Neill’s Sports Injuries Clinic, McLaughlin Sports Shop, the Belfield Barber and Café Sport.
