About

As a Fulbright TechImpact Scholar, I decided to write a blog to coincide with my project. The objective of the study is to develop an advance warning system for sewer blockages sometimes called ‘fatbergs’, which are mainly caused by the build up of fat, oil and grease (FOG) waste and other items (e.g. wet wipes, etc.). Hence, the title of this blog is ‘Fatbergs and FOG’. My Fulbright study will be hosted by a global expert, Professor Joel Ducoste, in North Carolina State University for a one month period in June 2018.

The project is divided into two parts –

  1. Mapping sewers to determine high risk areas for blockages;
  2. Determining appropriate sensors to be installed in the high risk areas.
