Section 16 Manual

The Freedom of Information Act (hereafter FOI Act) asserts the right of any member of the public to obtain access to information "to the greatest extent possible, consistent with the public interest and the right to privacy" in the University's records. This has resulted in the establishment of three new legal rights for individuals

  • a general right of access to information held in records
  • a right to amend information relating to him/her that is found to be incomplete, incorrect or misleading
  • a right to obtain reasons for decisions that have materially affected him/her

In order to aid those seeking information by this means, the University is required, under sections 15 and 16 of the FOI Act, to publish two reference guides. This guide, prepared in accordance with section 16, contains the policies, procedures and guidelines used by the University in decision-making.

Undergraduate application and selection

CAO Handbook: The Central Applications Office is the central processing unit for applications to higher education institutions. It produces a handbook annually laying out procedures for third-level applicants.

Entry Requirements: Details of the entry requirements for applicants, including points from 2002.

Entrance Scholarships: General conditions governing the award of entrance scholarships. information is available in the 2002 Scholarship Information section.

Registrar's Office: This website contains, regulations governing the Academic Council, information about obtaining academic transcripts and statements and information regarding registering as a student.

Student Information Handbook: Includes information on student services and policies.

Postgraduate application and selection

Requirements and application procedure: All applications for admission to postgraduate courses at UCD are made directly to the Academic department concerned.

International students application and selection

Applying to UCD: Information regarding EU/ Non-EU applicants, Socrates-Erasmus students, exchange students etc.
