Welcome to the UCD School of Earth Sciences

The UCD School of Earth Sciences is the largest Geoscience School in Ireland offering both undergraduate and graduate studies. The School has an internationally recognised reputation for excellence in teaching and research in the areas of fault analysis, geochronology, petrology and isotope geochemistry, geophysics, marine and petroleum geology, palaeobiology and palaeoclimatology. Our research funding typically exceeds €2 million per year, with research projects currently supported by more than 13 international petroleum companies. We have a vibrant international community comprising of researchers from over 15 countries. Our degree programmes reflect the needs of society and industry producing graduates who are nationally and internationally highly regarded by prospective employers and other universities. Along with our BSc in Geology we offer PhD and MSc by research. Our MSc in Petroleum Geoscience, a 1 year taught masters degree, is a collaborative initiative with Tullow Oil PLC and the only one of its kind in Ireland. Graduates from our school have gone on to work in a range of highly recognised companies including Tullow Oil, BP, Chevron, Geological Survey of Ireland and SLR.

Aggie's Travels (22/10/2015)

Our very own Dr Aggeliki Georgiopoulou is spending a whole month on the German Research Vessel Maria S Merian and is documenting her work and life on board this vessel. You can read all about it, send her comments or ask her questions via her blog. Aggie will try to give you a good picture of what it's like to be a present-day explorer out on the Atlantic.
