UCD School of Geological Sciences

Scoil na nEolaíochtaí Geolaíochta UCD

Postgraduate Programmes

The UCD School of Geological Sciences has a thriving international postgraduate community. We currently have around 30 students representing 12 nationalities. The vast majority of our postgraduates study for the PhD by research although we do have the occasional MSc by research.  We currently offer no taught postgraduate courses.

Postgraduate research in the School covers a broad spectrum of specialities (see research, left) with a seamless transition between pure and applied research.  We encourage research students to develop independent and original research.  They are required to take ownership of their research and are encouraged to plan their research, in consultation with their academic supervisor(s) and relevant technical staff.  They are not merely laboratory assistants who carry out the research directions of their supervisor.

If you are interested in conducting research with a friendly School in a vibrant city, this is the place for you.  Research projects available at present are shown on the right (current opportunities).  The School is always interested in receiving research proposals from intending postgraduate students and will endeavour to support them if supervision and facilities are adequate and funding can be obtained.

General information about postgraduate studies at UCD can be found on the UCD Graduate Studies website.
