Newly appointed Visiting Professor McCarthy visits GPEP
We are delighted to announce the appointment of urban geographer and planner, Professor Linda McCarthy of the Department of Geography and Urban Studies Programs at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, to a Visiting Professorship at the School of Geography, Planning and Environmental Policy.
This week, in addition to developing teaching and research collaborations, Prof. McCarthy will participate in graduate classes in the MA Urban Studies programme, facilitate a PhD workshop, and give a presentation titled "Something New or More of the Same in the Bidding Wars for Big Business?" as part of the School Seminar Series.
Over the next two years, Prof. McCarthy will collaborate with Dr Niamh Moore-Cherry on a research project examining temporary urban interventions as a response to urban crisis. Prof. McCarthy's appointment will also help the school to build further links with one of the longest-running Urban Studies programmes in the US, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
Prof. McCarthy is the co-author of The Geography of the World Economy (with Paul Knox and John Agnews) and Urbanization: An Introduction to Urban Geography (with Paul Knox). She has published widely in international journals including Land Use Policy, Tijdschrift voor Economische en Sociale Geographie and Growth and Change.
