EU-Canada Exchange Programme relating to Cities in MegaRegions - MEGAPOLITAN

(06/04/2011)

The School of Geography, Planning and Environmental Policy (GPEP) is part of a successful consortium of universities which has developed a new transatlantic exchange between the EU and Canada. The Trans-Atlantic Exchange Partnership (TEP) is funded under the ‘EU-Canada Programme for Co-operation in Higher Education, Training and Youth’. The MEGAPOLITAN consortium is formed under the common focus on Canadian and European Cities in MegaRegions: Planning for the Global World. The purpose of this consortium is to promote mobility for Canadian and European graduate students interested in comparative urban issues. A programme of study of 'MegaRegions' has been developed among the four participating Universities: Université Laval at Quebec, University of British Columbia at Vancouver, Universitat de Barcelona and University College Dublin (UCD). The consortium has been awarded funding for 3 years of student and staff exchange and joint seminars. This programme will provide a significant opportunity for GPEP graduate students in both geography and planning to gain valuable international experience and comparative insights into key urban development and planning issues in the Twenty First century. The first students will avail of the exchange in September this year.
