Biography:
| Declan is a lecturer in the School of Geography, Planning and Environmental Policy. He teaches modules on housing and planning, the history of planning, planning methodologies. His principal research interests revolve around housing and planning. He has undertaken research on regeneration and community participation and is currently involved in projects investigating housing affordability; the role of private residents associations in the planning system; the participation of disadvantaged communities in the planning system; the role of entrepreneurial governance in urban change ands the politics of rural housing in Ireland. He is involved in supervising four doctoral research students. |

| Over the past few years I have worked on a number of projects with Dr. Mark Scott and Dr. Paula Russell in the School of Geography, Planning and Environmental Policy. We are working on a number of projects funded by the Royal Irish Academy and the Environmental Protection Agency. I have published an edited book on housing policy in Ireland with Dr. Michelle Norris who is in the School of Applied Social Science. |
Teaching Philosophy
| My main teaching interests are related to delivering modules on the professionally accredited planning degrees. I teach modules on housing and planning, the history of planning and planning methodology. I also participate in field trips and field work both in Ireland and abroad. |
