Biography:
| Enda was appointed as a Lecturer in Planning at the School of Geography, Planning and Environmental Policy in 2008. He holds a B.A Natural Science (2002), Postgraduate Diploma in Statistics (2004) and PhD (2005) in Transportation Planning all from Trinity College Dublin (TCD). Prior to being appointed at UCD he worked as an Environmental Protection Agency and Science Foundation Ireland Research Fellow at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, TCD where he undertook research in the area of environmental acoustics. His research interests are broad in scope but centre on the areas of urban transportation and spatial planning, environmental noise, the creative economy, and related issues. He has published widely in the international literature including, inter alia, in such journals as Environment International, Journal of Environmental Management, Transportation Research A and D, Urban Studies, Town Planning Review, Cities and Applied Acoustics. He is author/co-author of more than 40 academic journal papers, book chapters, conference papers and reports. Enda has also held a visiting lecturer position at the University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City and is the current Director of Graduate Studies for the School. He is also a member of the Editoral Board of the journal Urban Studies Research.

Research Interests
| Enda's research interests can be summarised along the following inter-related themes: (1) Measuring the sustainability of urban land use and transportation trends within the context of urban spatial organisation theory, locational analysis, transport and service planning; (2) Application of mathematical and spatial modelling techniques (including GIS) as decision support in urban, regional and environmental contexts; (3) Measuring human exposure to environmental noise pollution from road transport including noise mapping and measurement techniques in GIS; (4) Regional economic competitiveness within the context of the emergent 'new economy' and the 'creative class' thesis.
Enda is interested in discussing potential research topics in broadly related areas with interested students. They should contact him directly for further enquiries and potential supervision. |
