Biography:
| Dr Finbarr Brereton completed an MEconSc (Public Policy) in the Department of Economics, and an MSc (Environmental Policy) in the Department of Environmental Studies at UCD, the latter on the subjects of Irish house prices, domestic fuel use and Irish housing tenure choices. He completed a PhD (Environmental Policy) in the School of Geography, Planning and Environmental Policy on the topics of Quality of Life and the Economics of Happiness in Ireland. Finbarr has published papers in such international peer review journals as Ecological Economics, European Urban and Regional Studies and the Economic and Social Review examining the influence of the environment on subjective well-being. He has secured significant research funding to date in excess of 1 million Euro, from national and international funding agencies. He was the Irish Principal Investigator on the European Science Foundation funded project HAPPINESS (HAPpiness, Political Institutions, Natural Environment and Space) and was acting Project Leader for the 2008/09 academic year. With Prof. Peter Clinch, he is the National Coordinator of the European Social Survey Round 6 in Ireland, funded by the IRCHSS and was the (acting) National Coordinator for Round 3, conducted in 2006/2007. |
Research Interests
| My research interests are broad in scope but centre on the areas of environmental economics; economics of welfare; socio-economic analysis of flooding; environment and happiness; environmental valuation; survey design and implementation; and GIS.
