Biography:
| Marcus is a recently appointed Research Fellow and is the scientific co-ordinator of a new EU FP7 project called TURaS - Transitioning to Urban Resilience and Sustainability (TURAS). This is a E6.8m international project with 28 partners across Europe which Marcus co-devised, and which UCD is the lead partner. For the next five years, the project team will develop novel strategies that will enable urban planners and policy makers to tackle urgent issues such as adaptation in urban areas to the challenges of the future using novel design, collaboration and integrated and resilient policy prescriptions. Interest in TURAS has grown and three additional partners from Taiwan and in the process of joining. In June 2012 the TURAS project was awarded a special award in the Champions of European Research for ranking first in the Sustainable and Resilient Green Cities section of the FP7 call topic. This award was presented by the Irish President, Michael D. Higgins (see: here). Marcus is also a Work Package Leader on a new FP7 project, OPERAs, which will commence in January 2013. This will mainly focus on Ecosystem Services and socio-economic / socio-cultural values. Post Doctoral Research Research Interests |
