Biography:
|
Dr. Mark Scott is
currently Head of Subject for Environmental Policy and Director of
Research in the UCD School of Geography, Planning and Environmental
Policy. He is a graduate of Queen's University Belfast with a BSc in Environmental
Planning, a Diploma in Town Planning and a PhD in Environmental Planning. In
addition, to planning practice, he has worked in the University of Ulster and
Queen's University Belfast, before being appointed to UCD in 2002. Mark is a
Corporate Member of the Irish Planning Institute. Mark's research interests
revolve around three core themes: (1) rural transformation and the rural environment; (2) environmental governance and active citizenship; and (3) the social-ecological interface and emerging debates surrounding resilience and vulnerability - for more details, please refer

Mark has held research grants from, inter alia, the Irish Research Council for Humanities and Social Sciences, the Royal Irish Academy, the Environmental Protection Agency's STRIVE Programme, and the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government totaling over 1.5m EURO. He has also acted as a consultant on spatial and environmental planning to the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, the Northern Ireland Assembly Environment Committee, and the Joint Oireachtas (Irish Parliament) Committee for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government. Mark is Reviews Editor for the international peer-reviewed journal, Planning Theory and Practice (Taylor and Francis), and is currently an external examiner at the University of Sheffield and Newcastle University. He has held visiting appointments at the University of Pisa and in the University of New South Wales, Sydney. |
