What type of employment opportunities are available when I finish my Degree?

Our graduates find that the skills they learn in the geography programme have enabled them to excel in a range of activities in Ireland and abroad. They work as teachers at primary and secondary level; as researchers with government agencies and departments such as Teagasc, the Marine Institute, the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and the Department of Finance; as consultants with private firms including Arthur Andersen, Deloitte and Touche, Ulster Bank and ACC Bank; as aid workers in developing countries, including Niger; as marketing executives; as GIS specialists; as planners and as university lecturers.

The BA in Geography, Planning and Environmental Policy provides the first steps on the route to a career as a Professional Planner. The Degree has Spatial Planning accreditation from the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), thus by pursuing a one-year specialist Planning Masters degree after the completion of their undergraduate studies, students obtain the relevant qualifications to begin a planning career.
