The UCD College of Agriculture, Food Science and Veterinary Medicine offers a range of taught graduate programmes, designed to enhance students professional and career development, deepen their understanding of a subject and provide basic research training.

Graduate opportunities/programmes range from programmes at certificate, diploma and masters level. These courses are modularised to facilitate access, continuing professional education and life-long learning.

In addition to a broad range of postgraduate courses, all the Schools in the College of Agriculture, Food Science and Veterinary Medicine are research active and working on a range of projects that are multidisciplinary in scope and that draw upon the latest laboratory techniques and tools.  The interdisciplinary nature of the research programmes make these dynamic and exciting place in which to work and study.

School of Agriculture and Food Science

The mission of the School is to develop and apply science scholarship to solve problems in human health, food systems and agriculture for the benefit of society through excellence in teaching and research. The School supports the indigenous agriculture and food industries in Ireland by educating students to become industry leaders and by conducting world class, cutting edge research.

Our research contributes to an improvement in the sustainability of agriculture, the quality and security of food and consumer well being. The research ethos of the School is to foster curiosity-based and hypothesis-driven research to best international standards in areas of key strategic relevance to Ireland.  Furthermore, our research encompasses basic discovery of biological mechanisms, the application of knowledge to problem solving, both on-farm and during processing, and the translation of scientific discoveries into practical applications. The interdisciplinary nature of our research programmes makes the School an interesting and exciting area in which to work and study.

UCD School of Veterinary Medicine 

UCD Veterinary Medicine is one of the leading veterinary schools in Europe, and it has also been granted full accreditation by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). The AVMA educational standards of excellence are recognised worldwide as the 'gold standard' in veterinary education.

UCD Veterinary Medicine is located in a new purpose-designed Veterinary Sciences Centre and Veterinary Hospital on the main UCD campus at Belfield. The UCD Veterinary Hospital offers a range of high-quality veterinary services for both farm and companion animals. Our state-of-the-art facilities and position on the campus of a major research-intensive university allow us to push back the frontiers of knowledge in veterinary research, thus advancing animal health, animal welfare and human health. This research informs our educational programmes.
