UCD School of Biology and Environmental Science

The UCD School of Biology and Environmental Science provides an academic and intellectual environment that fosters the development of world-class multidisciplinary teaching and research. It is part of a new UCD that is developing as a research-intensive university, advancing knowledge through cutting-edge research. Graduate students are central to these activities. Their work represents a large proportion of the research in the School, and the training and experiences offered by the School are designed to further the development of their future careers.

The School offers Graduate Research Opportunities within internationally recognised research groups that lead to Masters and Doctoral degrees. Our research focuses on four interlinked thematic areas: ecosystem function and sustainable resource managment, evolution and population biology, plant sciences and cell and molecular biology.

The School also provides a range of Graduate Taught Programmes at certificate, diploma and degree level.

School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science (SBBS)

One of the most rapidly advancing areas of science today is in the field of biomolecular and biomedical research. Discoveries of how molecules, that are the fundamental elements of biological systems, work have been instrumental in advancing our understanding of health and disease in all forms of life. At the UCD School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science (SBBS), we harness the complementary energies of research and teaching to produce confident, highly skilled graduates with the potential to make major contributions to the knowledge economy in Ireland and abroad. The School is highly research-intensive with over 35 academic staff with international standing, who are actively engaged in key areas of research:
