An exciting scholarship programme funded primarily by the Brazilian government. The programme seeks to strengthen and expand Brazilian science and technology, innovation and competitiveness through the international mobility of their students and researchers.

science_without_borders_port UNIVERSITY COLLEGE DUBLIN (UCD) welcomes applications from Brazilian third level graduates to our PhD Programmes in Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics. This scheme is an exciting opportunity for students to benefit from studying in one of Europe’s leading research-driven universities.


UCD has a long history of successful research collaborations with over 30 Brazilian universities and research institutes including staff and graduate exchange with Universidade de São Paulo (USP), Fundacao Getulio Vargas (EAESP), the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and Fio.

 

UCD was established in 1854 by John Henry Newman, a leading academic and theologian. Today, UCD is Ireland’s largest university with almost 25,000 students. UCD is currently ranked within the top 1% of institutions world-wide by the Times Higher Education rankings.

UCD is located on a beautiful leafy 133-hectare campus close to Dublin’s city centre, which provides a mix of academic facilities, research institutes, libraries and archival collections, enterprise space, student villages, and sports and recreational facilities.

Brazilian students who wish to apply to the Science Without Borders Scholarship Scheme should follow these steps

 

Step 1:-   Review the research projects and the research profiles of the Principal Investigators listed on the Current PhD Opportunities page to establish which area is suitable to you

 

Step 2:-  Contact the Principal Investigator of the project you wish to apply for to discuss your application and seek their agreement to supervise you should you be successful

 

Step 3:   Complete the UCD online application form at www.ucd.ie/apply (when prompted, please choose Application Type: ‘Scholarship Application- Brazil)

 

Step 4:-  Upload the following documentation

  • Academic transcript(s)
  • Proof of English language level i.e. IELTS, TOEFL etc
  • Degree certificate(s)
  • Two academic references

Note: Original hardcopies are required for verification purposes for successful applicants prior to registration to UCD.

 

The following conditions apply:

  • Applicants must  be a citizen of Federative Republic of Brazil
  • Applicants must have a minimum of a Second Class, grade 1 undergraduate degree in a relevant subject
  • Only applications for a full 4 year PhD scholarship are accepted
  • Online applications are only accepted from students who have the agreement of a UCD academic member of staff to be their supervisor for up to four years
  • Applicants are required to demonstrate a high level of competence in English language. In the Internet based TOEFL (iTB), a minimum score of 100 is required. For the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) an average score of 6.5 over all components and a minimum of 6.0 in each band on the Academic Version
