Can I order a prospectus?

What qualifications do I need?
Applicants should normally possess a first degree of at least a second class honours standard or the equivalent.
Applicants for research degree modules should normally possess a first degree of at least an upper second class honours standard or the equivalent and/or Master's degree or its equivalent. The requirement for a first degree may be waived in the case of post-experience modules for candidates who can demonstrate sufficient relevant work experience.
How many Graduate Students are at UCD?
There are currently close to 6,000 students enrolled in Graduate study at UCD accounting for a significant proportion of our overall student body.

During school holidays UCD Sport Centre offers a range of fun activities for Children to allow for them the opportunity of trying new Sports, making new friends and having lots of Fun! With Camps at Easter, Mid-term, Halloween and summer, UCD Sports centre offer Children the chance of taking part in over 25 Sports/activities during Camp weeks. What is a research degree?
A research degree involves the sustained and in-depth study of a specific topic, which is then written up as a thesis for examination.
While undertaking a research programme, will I receive any academic support?
All research students are appointed on academic supervisor. Your supervisor will be knowledgeable in your field of research and will provide guidance and advice throughout the research process.
Can I apply for any taught postgraduate course by using the UCD online applications system?
While the majority of our taught courses are processed online there are one or two exceptions. Applications to the Postgraduate Graduate Diploma in Education are via the Postgraduate Applications Centre (www.pac.ie) as is Public Health Nursing.
What is the UCD Structured PhD?
The UCD Structured PhD aims to enable UCD PhD students to achieve the best possible experience of graduate research and training.. The Structured PhD includes several innovative measures designed to support you in achieving your academic and professional objectives. Further information is available on our Structured PhD page.
What is a taught graduate programme?
A taught Graduate course generally involves taking taught modules offered in the qualification of your choice, you may be asked to submit essays or projects during that time. This is then usually followed by independent research, leading to you writing a dissertation on a topic of your choice.
How will I be taught ?
Teaching is mainly carried out through seminars, workshops and lectures. Dissertation work will normally be individually supervised on a one-to-one basis.
What funding is available?
The Higher Education Authority (HEA) offers maintenance grants to Irish and EU students. To check your eligibility please refer to the student finance website at www.studentfinance.ie. For further details on funding please visit our funding opportunities page on this website.
How much will my fees be?
Students are liable to pay programme fees to the University. In addition to programme fees students must budget for their own maintenance (including accommodation). University fees are fixed for each year and are subject to an annual increase.

Where can I get a transcript of my UCD results?

I don't have a first degree but have professional experience in a relevant field. Can I still apply?
For applicants who do not have the required minimal entry standard, a year long qualifying course may be available in some cases. In addition many Master's programmes have an associated Diploma course which, if passed at an appropriate honours level, may provide part of the necessary academic qualification for entry. In this case relevant work experience may be an essential requirement.
The course I want to apply for does not appear on the Programme Choice List?
Please check that the programme that you want to apply for is open for applications. This can be found on the Programme Listings. You must choose the correct Application type (i.e. Postgraduate taught, Postgraduate research, Occasional, etc).
It doesn't allow me to check whether I filled in my 2nd and 3rd tertiary qualifications since the system displays only the first one.
When you are in your application in the Previous College section you can check all your qualifications one by one by clicking on enter or view another college.
Can I update my application after it has been submitted?
It is not possible to amend an online application once it has been submitted. Please contact the office of the programme that you have applied to if you wish to make them aware of any changes in your application. Online Applications is unable to comment on whether your application is correctly filled. Please contact the office of the programme that you have applied to for confirmation on this.
I have not received my application number
Your application will be on our student system within one working day of your submission, at which point you will be able to view a summary of your application. The summary will contain a complete list of the documents required. You can view the summary by logging in to your online account. The Application Summary will also provide a link to a pdf of your complete application which will include your application number. Please note that an application fee is required for the majority of courses and in such cases the application will not be made available for assessment, and the application number will not generate, until the application fee has been paid.
I cannot pay the application fee/deposit by credit card?
An application fee is required for most application types. This is payable during the application process using Mastercard, Visa or Laser. The fee is €45. If you choose to pay by cheque or postal order the fee is €50. Please note that we cannot accept cheques drawn on a non-Irish bank. Cheques should be made payable to University College Dublin. Applicants who have not paid online, and who cannot send a cheque drawn on an Irish bank, should pay the application fee directly to the UCD Fees account:
What are the bank details for payment? BANK DETAILS: Applicants choosing these payment options should include the application number (if applicable) or the login ID as a reference number when making the payment. You are only required to pay the application fee once (i.e. if you are applying for more than one programme you are not required to make an additional payment).
The email I received lists application fee as required although I have already paid the fee
The automatic e-mail contains a list of all requirements for the course for which you have applied, this will include required documents and the application fee. The requirements will be listed here even if they have already been met (i.e. documents uploaded, application fee paid etc.) If you have already made an online application, you can check the progress of your application and whether your documents have been received by logging in and viewing your application. How long do I have to accept an offer and pay the deposit? Generally offers must be accepted and the deposit paid within 15 working days of date of the offer. Please contact the office of the programme that you have applied for to find out further information regarding your offer.
Do I need to pay the deposit?
The deposit is payable to secure your place on the programme. It is not refundable. You should contact the office of the programme that you have applied for to find out if they will hold a place for you even if you do not pay the deposit by the closing date of the offer.
How can I send my supporting documents to you? After you submit your online application, a list of required documents will be emailed to you. The documentation required varies depending on the programme you have applied for. The preferred method of document submission is via the upload facility which is available once the application has been submitted. Alternatively, documents may be sent as hardcopy to Martin Hurley, Online Applications, Tierney Building, University College Dublin, Belfield, Dublin 4, Ireland. You can also contact the admissions team in Smurfit directly at: smurfit.admissions@ucd.ie Please note that the onus rests with the applicant to ensure that the application is complete and that all required supporting documentation is submitted on time. Failure to do so may mean that the application will not be considered.
I have not received my application number

I have sent my documents, but they do not appear as ‘received’ in my application checklist
Due to a large volume of applications, the checklist may not be updated on the day your documents are received.
You should also check that you have sent us the correct documentation. Please see notes regarding references and transcripts below. If you have sent your documents directly to the school and not to Online Applications, they may not appear as received in the checklist. You should contact the school directly to confirm receipt of these documents.
Should these letters be submitted by the referees or can I send them to you and in what format?
If references are listed as required documents for the programme you have applied, you should send us written references (contact details for referees will not suffice). The documents can be sent to us directly by the referees or you can send them. Normally academic references should be received in sealed envelopes written on headed paper. Some programmes have specific reference forms, which can be found on their website. Academic referees should be able to comment on your academic ability and suitability for the programme that you have applied for.
What is a transcript?
A transcript is a document that states the results of all the subjects of all years that you did in your degree. Please note that the transcript is not the parchment that you would have received in your graduation. If you do not have a transcript, you can request this from your University. If you have sent us a copy of a parchment, please note that ‘transcript’ will not be marked as received on your checklist.
What is the closing date for my supporting documentation?

What are the opening and closing dates of programmes?

When are offers for programmes made?
We operate a system of offer rounds, for taught graduate courses, but do advise all candidates to apply as early as possible. These dates facilitate speedier decision-making and notification to graduate taught applicants.

Why was I not accepted to a programme?
The Online Applications unit does not play any part in the assessment process. Please contact the course coordinator directly for feedback.
I accepted a provisional/conditional offer, but have not received email confirmation
Please note that no automated email is sent to you when a provisional or conditional offer is accepted. You will receive an email once you accept an official offer.

I have applied to a UCD graduate programme. When will I receive my student number? If you have been successful in your application. The School to whom you have applied will create an online offer for you. Upon acceptance of this offer it will automatically create a student record for you. Following this you will receive an e-mail confirmation of your acceptance. The e-mail will also inform you of your UCD student number. Can I get a refund?
UCD has a comprehensive payments and refunds policy. This is available at: http://www.ucd.ie/registry/adminservices/fees/refunds.htm Students accepting their offer of a place to UCD therefore accept the terms and workings of this policy.

What are the Visa Requirements for International Students?
Citizens of certain countries require an entry visa for Ireland. Students requiring visas should allow a minimum of ten to twelve weeks for visa processing and early application is advisable.
Do I have to register with the GNIB?

What is meant by the English Language Requirement?
Courses at UCD are given almost entirely in English. All students applying for degree courses must be able to speak, read and write English fluently in order to take part in tutorials, seminar discussions and examinations. If your mother tongue is not English, or if you have not taken your secondary education in English, you will need to have passed an approved test before registering for a course.
