Who is the Graduate Certificate in Innovation & Entrepreneurship for?
The new Graduate Certficate in Innovation and Entrepreneurship is the first programme to be offered by the
Innovation Academy and is available both as an integral part of the doctoral
degree and as a stand-alone programme. It is open to all PhD students of all disciplines in both TCD and UCD who wish to supplement their intensive research skills with more practical entrepreneurial skills.
What will I learn?
Nurturing the development of ideas through to value, the Innovation Academy provides a range of specialised
modules to enable students to tailor their selection to best exploit opportunities arising from their postgraduate research
or special interests
How will I benefit?
The programmes are developed to enable students to cultivate their creativity in a stimulating environment. Fostered in a
uniquely cross-disciplinary, multi-national and vibrant community, graduates will develop complimentary skill-sets to their
core discipline.
What is the programme about?
Through the creation of a vibrant multidisciplinary environment the Academy seeks to transform some of the brightest scholars into energetic and resourceful entrepreneurial thinkers.
Students are required to complete the two core modules:
These core modules earn 15 ECTS.
In order to complete the full certificate students need to complete a total of 30 ECTS, which can be made up
from a selection of the optional modules:
The modules are held throughout the year, both on and off campus. The core modules must be completed before the optional modules can be started.

The Graduate Certificate in Innovation & Entrepreneurship does not guarantee employment on completion of the course. However, companies that students have worked directly with during Academy modules have included:

Students have also had intimate discussions with industry leaders from the public and private sectors, VC’s, government funding bodies, leaders in the Arts community, pioneers in charity work and education to name but a few.
With such access afforded to the students of the Academy combined with growth of personal and professional networks and continuing support from the Academy, students will be given a comprehensive set of skills and networks to build their own futures effectively.
If English is not your native language, unless you have done your primary degree through English in an English speaking country, an English language qualification is required for all programmes.
Graduate Certificate in Innovation & Entrepreneurship
You will need:
An undergraduate Degree
You will need to be fully available for all core modules and your chosen optional modules. Modules are run throughout the year and run from 9am to 5.30pm every day of the module.

UCD Innovation Academy Bursary Scheme
The Innovation Academy @UCD is delighted to announce their new Bursary Scheme for all UCD Postgraduates, Postdocs and Staff. On receipt of a Bursary you will be able to complete a fully funded Graduate Certificate in Innovation & Entrepreneurship.
Process:
- You will need to get a letter from your funding agency/employer stating clearly that they will not fund your completion of the Graduate Certificate in Innovation & Entrepreneurship.
- Then you need to send this letter, along with your 'motivation', to Lisa Hogan, Academy Administrator, UCD Research (lisa.hogan@ucd.ie, ph: 716 4012).
- Your 'motivation' can take any form, from letter to image, from dance to video, from baking us a cake (it has happened!) to creating a work of art (also happened). You just need to convey your interest in participating in the Academy.
- You will be notified within a suitably short amount of time whether your application has been successful.
- Once you are a 'Bursary Student' you can complete the Graduate Certificate in Innovation & Entrepreneurship without incurring any fees.
