Who is the MA in Women, Gender & Society for?Women, Gender & Society Studies programmes, based in School of Social Justice, UCD are aimed at those who have already completed an undergraduate degree in sociology, politics, history or other relevant fields and are interested in exploring further how gender plays a crucial role in the way we see the world and in how the world is organised. The MA provides students with an opportunity to develop their critical understanding of contemporary society and bring their knowledge and understanding of policy making and social change to a new depth. It is for those who want an opportunity to examine society from the standpoint of women and the process of achieving social and economic justice from the perspective of both women and men. What will I learn? You will have an opportunity to engage with Women Gender & Society studies as a vibrant international field of study, producing its own body of scholarship, challenging traditional disciplines and having a profound effect on the wider world. Women's Studies in UCD is twenty years in existence and has become one of the most dynamic women's studies centres in Europe. The Centre hosts the newly established Feminist and Gender Studies Network, UCD comprising lecturers and researchers from many different disciplines. The wide range of course modules cover feminist theory and politics, research methodology and perspectives, global perspectives on women, inequality and public policy, sexualities, women’s history and literature, psychology, education, law and human rights. How will I benefit? You will develop a critical understanding of economic and social policy, a new understanding of women through history and a whole new outlook on gender roles and identities in contemporary society. As well as deepening your critical thinking, this course leads to a well-recognised MA qualification within the Women Gender & Society Studies programme of the School of Social Justice. What is the programme about? In the current global and national economic crisis, a feminist perspective offers a complex understanding of how oppression works locally and globally and offers rich insights into the way multiple discrimination works across gender, race, sexual orientation, disability and age. |
