The Human Development Initiative (HDI) aims to promote and foster development education, produce quality research in partnership with southern universities and raise awareness of contemporary development issues through various outreach programmes. It is comprised of an inter disciplinary group of academics, researchers and students whose work focuses on contemporary development issues.

The Dublin Kapuscinski Lecture – 'Climate Change and Development' on 31st May 2011 at 1700-1900 in the UCD John Hume Global Ireland Institute.
Professor Dirk Messner will deliver the keynote lecture. Jan Szczycinski (UNDP Bratislava Regional Centre) will chair. Professor Messner is the Director of the German Development Institute, Bonn, Professor of Political Science at the University Duisburg-Essen and a Member of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU).
