UCD Graduate Research and Education Programme (GREP) in Gender, Culture and Identity

The programme covers three major interlinking, interdisciplinary research strands, combining studies of history, literature and visual culture:

• Gender, Cultural Change and Artistic Practice in Ireland Gender
  
• Cultural Memory and Local Identities
• Gender, National Policy and International Practice<

This part of the programme will include two distinct but related doctoral projects:

• Gender and Ireland's Foreign Relations (1919-70)
• International medical practice and national medical policy (1922-60)

Structure

This is an interdisciplinary thematic doctoral programme which will be hosted by UCD, but will bring together a unique combination of expertise and postgraduate training opportunities in humanities from University of Limerick, Queen's University Belfast and UCD

Intake

It will provide full funding for 6 students working on the topics identified above, but it will also provide training in digital humanities and archival research  to 6-12 additional students annually and co-ordinate training in interdisciplinary postgraduate research on the relationship between Gender, Culture and History in the participating institutions.

Courses

The programme will offer from Jan 2009 inter-institutional online modules in Digital Humanities, including Computing Data Sets, and Research Methods in Historical and Literary Studies.

From Sept 2009, it will offer modules in Gender and Writing and Social and Cultural History of Medicine at UCD; Local History at University of Limerick; and Gender History at Queen’s.
