Important note: the new web pages of History and Archives were launched last week, and are still under reconstruction. Missing links and missing pages will be restored over the next few days. Webmaster, 2 February 2010
John Henry Newman, the first rector of UCD's predecessor institution, wrote in 1852 that the study of History serves to "enlarge and enlighten the mind", and History has been at the very heart of UCD's intellectual life since its foundation. Today the School is home to a dynamic international community of scholars and students, and to one of the most important public archives in Ireland, and makes an outstanding contribution to academic and public life in Ireland and beyond.
Please explore our website to learn more about teaching and research in the school. For information on our extensive archival holdings, visit the collection website.
