MA in History

The MA in History (90 ECTS credits) is offered full-time over one year or part-time over two years.  An exciting range of modules is on offer, which will allow you to focus on the area of history that most interests you, for instance medieval, early modern, or modern history (Irish or global).  The degree culminates in a research dissertation of 15,000 words. Each student will receive guidance for the dissertation from a supervisor, drawn from the School’s staff, in their area of interest.

The History MA programmes build on the skills of thinking, evaluation and writing that we stress at undergraduate level. In addition:

  • We deepen the skills needed to analyse data and documentation
  • We develop individual skills of writing, oral participation and presentation
  • The core modules of our History MAs are small-group seminars led by members of the academic staff, all of whom are research-active
  • Each graduate is mentored by a supervisor who offers professional advice and guidance
