The current major collaborative research themes at the Centre are:
Maternal and Child Health
Psychiatry and Mental Health
Public Health and Disease
Archives and Library and
Medical Professions and Medical Practices.
These research themes have a north and south dimension and situate the history of medicine in Ireland within an international context. They expand medical historians' understanding of the importance of language, medical tradition, community and ethics in the communication and development of medical provision from 1750 to 1970. In this way, the Centre's research facilitates a re-assessment of the importance of industrialisation, urbanisation, consumerism, and other factors, in the development of the medical marketplace, and refines our understanding of its operation.
The research interests of the Centre are not restricted to the themes outlined above. The Centre has a wide interest in the history of medicine and new projects are always welcome.
