The MLitt Research Degree

The MLitt is a two year research degree which combines some taught skills elements alongside a major research thesis of 40,000-50,000 words including footnotes but excluding bibliography and appendices. MLitt students are allocated a supervisor from the teaching faculty of the School of History and Archives.

Transfer to the PhD Programme

MLitt students can be considered for transfer to the PhD programme after one year as a registered student on the MLitt programme.   Applications for transfer will be considered by an appointed Transfer Assessment Panel (TAP) consisting of not fewer than three members of the School's academic staff. 

Entrance Requirements and Applications Process

The minimum entrance requirement for the MLitt is a very good undergraduate degree (a first or high second class honours degree) not lower than a 3.6 GPA.  Applicants should also have completed a major undergraduate dissertation.
