The Iberian Book Project
Project director: Dr Sandy Wilkinson
The Iberian Book Project (IBP) aims to create the first global survey of books published in Spanish or Portuguese or books printed in other languages in Spain, Portugal, Mexico and Peru before 1601. Currently, the Project's Microsoft Access database holds information on some 18,400 items which have survived in around 95,000 copies in over 1200 libraries. So far, the Project has concentrated on incorporating information gathered from major collections across Europe and North and South America. Over the next year (2008-2009), the Project will begin the process of working through the the most important published catalogues and bibliographies of Iberian print. It will also begin to survey some of the smaller collections of Iberian print worldwide - even relatively modest collections can often contain very rare or unique items.
