Estate Maps of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries
Researcher: Ailsa C. Holland
Maps continue to be regarded as one of the most versatile sources of historical, social, local and topographical information. Many remain submerged in collections of archives and are only made accessible for bespoke use through digitisation projects and published catalogues. Collections acquired from solicitors’ offices in Dublin in the early 1970s to underpin the education of archivists in UCD contain a substantial number of property maps dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, many by fine surveyors and many of areas which have undergone substantial change and development. The purpose of this project is to publish a catalogue of more than 200 maps which will both describe and contextualise those included.
