This project, funded by the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation (New York) and the British Academy investigates the emergence, social composition and behavioural patterns of violent paramilitary groups in post-1918 Central Europe from a trans-national perspective. Articles on the subject have been accepted for publication in Past & Present, German History and a series of edited books.
