Internal Collaborators
| Dr Edel Bhreathnach Deputy Director UCD Mícheál Ó Cléirigh Institute Since 2009 I have jointly coordinated a project entitled 'Ireland in Late Medieval Europe: new directions in research' with Dr Bhreathnach , the principal aim of which is to provide an inter-disciplinary forum in which scholars working in this area of study can disseminate their latest findings, suggest new approaches and exchange ideas. An inaugural round table was held in TCD in February 2009 at which historians, archaeologists, art historians and experts in language and literature reviewed the present state of late medieval Irish studies. This was followed in October 2010 by a two-day symposium in UCD which explored the theme of 'Images of authority in late medieval Ireland' . This event combined a programme of lectures with a field trip to the abbeys of Fore abbey and Multyfarnham friary, Co.West Meath. The workshop was supported by UCD's College of Arts and Celtic Studies Research Strand, 'Visual and Material Culture'. A further symposium will be held in February 2012 in UCC. A publication, aimed primarily at undergraduate readership, will follow. Drawing on the various contributions to the symposia, this will aim to provide an up to date summary and comment on the latest research on late medieval Ireland under thematic headings. |
