Research Interests
| General Research Interests: Archival traditions in Ireland; Archival Description; Archival Advocacy; Archival Theory; Medieval and early modern diplomatics & palaeography; Early Insular Gospel Books and commentary manuscripts Current Research Projects: I have three different research projecst currently underway. The first of these relates to establishing a standardised approach to archival description in Ireland. Having worked as part of the team that produced the Irish Guidelines for Archival Description, I am now working as part of the Descriptive Standards Subcommittee of the Archives and Records Association, Ireland, to compile the Irish Guidelines for Indexing Archives. I am also interested in archival research methodologies and promoting a culture of research among Irish archivists. Together with my colleague Ailsa Holland, I am editing the second volume in the Archives and Archivists series which will showcase the best graduate research produced in UCD in the past five years. The final part of my research focuses on issues in contemporary archiving in Ireland. I am currently working on a study of the role of archives in establishing the memory of child abuse in institutional schools in Ireland.
