First Year Students

Your Entry into Undergraduate Life

Welcome to UCD History. We take the opportunity in First year to introduce you to a broad sweep of history rangin from imperial Rome to modern Europe and Ireland. Our emphasis will be on asking questions related to these areas rather than getting you to lear off long lists of facts and figures.

To find out more about our First Year modules, look at the History Syllabus 2012 / 2013 .

Academic Mentoring

The School of History and Archives is a friendly community, but is always doing what it can to provide as welcoming environment for new undergraduates as possible. To this end, this year the School is introducing a mentoring scheme. Each undergrduate undertaking History as a major or minor will be allocated a member of staff as an academic mentor. You will meet with your mentor in the first few weeks of your first semester, so that the mentor can advise on any issus you might have about settling in academically. Alongside your module coordinators and the Teaching and Learning staff, the mentor will act as an additional port of call for queries you have about your dgree over the coming year. That way, students can maximise what they get out of their time in the School community.
