Single Subject Major History
About the Single Subject Major in History
The Single Subject Major History programme offers students an opportunity to focus on History in the second and third years of their degree.
A strong emphasis is placed on small-group teaching, individual research projects, and professional training. A high proportion of Singe Subject Major students continue to study History at graduate level.
In the BA Level 1, students take HIS 10090, Introduction to Historiography (a seminar course for Single Subject History Major students only), and at least three of the four Level 1 History modules.
At Stage 2, Single Subject Major students take the same core modules as combined subject students, and four specialized Single Subject History modules in years 2 and 3. In addition, students take three other optional modules over Stage 2 in order to gain the necessary 100 credits for the Single Honours Subject BA in History.
